FAQs

What does ‘NB’ stand for in steel post sizing?

‘NB’ stands for ‘nominal bore’. The nominal bore is the hollow section of the pipe. Nominal refers to the approximate measurement of the bore (or the space in the middle). Various wall thicknesses are available and we can order in Light, Medium or Heavy pipe if required.

What can these posts be used for?

Here are some common uses for Galvanised Steel Fence Posts:

- Gate posts: commonly a pair of posts used to frame the gateway.
Intermediate posts: These are the posts positioned at regular and equally spaced intervals along the fenceline. They’re needed to support the chainire mesh to prevent sagging and other issues.
- Corner posts: As their name suggests, these are the fence posts used at a corner or change of direction. They provide the opportunity for the corner posts are steel fence posts at a corner or change of direction in the fence. They provide support for the chain wire fencing to be strained off.
- End posts: These are used at the very end of a fenceline. And also provide support for the chain wire to be strained off.
Brace rails: Braces are fixed to end posts and change of direction posts.
- Strainer Posts: Some people opt to use intermediary strainer posts on a fence line to play it safe, especially on long runs of chainwire fencing.

Is it easy to install?

Chainwire fence installation requires a bit of know-how and practice. It is possible to do-it-yourself however if you’re new to fencing or require only a short length of fence, we recommend considering our aluminium fencing range which is more straightforward and simple to install.
